Strava Makes Route Discovery Easier With Improved Intuitive Search, Expanded Route Inventory; Turn-By-Turn Audio Coming Soon

New map experience updates help users discover and explore the most relevant route for outdoor exploration

SAN FRANCISCO — Oct. 22, 2026 — Strava, the app for active people with more than 200 million users in more than 185 countries, today announced a set of updates to its route discovery and mapping experience, aimed at making it easier for users who love outdoor activities to find, plan, and follow the best routes. This update is built around some of the things outdoor users say matter most: an easier way to search the map, more information in the route details to help evaluate a potential route and a revamped offline experience that lets users continue their activity even without signal.

Key updates rolling out today include:

  • More Intuitive Search  - Finding your favorite route has never been easier. Head to the Maps tab and search for route names or points of interest for your next run, walk, hike or ride. Search for places in your own words with results matched to intent.

  • Improved Route Inventory - Expanded and better-curated routes so users have a broader set of  options to choose from before they ever leave the house.

  • Redesigned Route Cards - Better assess which route to take by evaluating routes using photos and activity data from Strava users.

  • Offline Maps - Stay active, even when you don’t have signal. When offline, your saved routes appear right on your home screen so you can reach your destination with confidence. Users can also start and save a workout in Offline Mode, and the finished adventure will upload as soon as service is restored again.

A number of improvements are also coming soon:

  • Navigate Hands-Free - Subscribers will be able to hear turn-by-turn audio directions when following a route on their hikes, walks, and runs. Get real-time guidance when to turn and explore somewhere new with confidence.

  • Expanded Route Details -  Community tags and route descriptions  Better information, like tags and descriptions validated by Strava users' own activities, provide details along the route, highlighting waterfalls, trees, wildlife, and more ahead of time, built by aggregated community data.

  • Discover Routes On Web - Head to the web to browse routes and scroll around the Map.
