Strava Reveals Headline Segment Data for Tour de France and Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift 2024

As an official partner of the global cycling event, the platform’s features help tour directors create routes and headline segments

Strava, the subscription platform at the center of connected fitness, today revealed key segments and route data for the 2024 edition of the Tour de France and Tour Femmes avec Zwift (the tour). As the official partner of the tour, Strava’s data and mapping technology has long underpinned the route planning for the global cycling event.

The route announcement is part of Strava’s partnership with the tour. The tour course design teams have used Strava to create the race routes by analyzing insights from millions of public Strava activity uploads.

"Between the Segments and the Global Heatmap, Strava gives me the opportunity to visualize the routes most used by cyclists from all horizons to enrich the volume of information needed to design the Tour route. Strava also highlights the routes favored by pro riders for their training, enabling me to design stages that, beyond meeting the needs of the race, stick as closely as possible to the very values of cycling: effort and discovery," said Thierry Gouvenou, Race Director, Tour de France.

The segments have been revealed alongside the route unveiling announced today by the Amaury Sport Organisation at Palais des Congrès in Paris.

Each stage of the tour borrows segments created by Strava athletes. For each stage, the organization selects several official segments, which then become the reference for the cycling community.

Strava data also revealed the completion increase of the Tour 2023 official segments. Notable year-over-year increases include:

  • Col du Feu: An increase of 892%. 2023 was the first time this pass had been on the Tour de France schedule.

  • Col de la Loze: 226% completion increase on 2023’s toughest pass.

  • Jaizkibel: 121% completion on one of the Basque Country's most emblematic passes.

  • Col du Tourmalet: 62% increase on one of the world's most famous mountain passes.
