Strava’s New Global Headquarters Signals Growth and Innovation
The company moves into downtown San Francisco, strengthening its presence in the city
SAN FRANCISCO – March 5, 2025 – Strava, the app for active people, is proud to announce the grand opening of its new global headquarters at 181 Fremont St, an iconic building and the third tallest building in San Francisco. The move underscores Strava’s ambition to accelerate innovation, attract world-class talent and deepen its impact in the city it calls home.
“San Francisco has served as the launch pad for so many iconic brands and we aspire to be part of that legacy,” said Michael Martin, Strava CEO. “For decades, the city has been defined by bold ideas and game-changing innovation. We are embracing that spirit to push the boundaries of how Strava connects the world through movement.”
A Headquarters Designed for Innovation and Connection
Located in the heart of San Francisco, Strava’s new space is designed to reflect its dynamic culture and foster innovation, collaboration and connection.
The new headquarters also pays homage to Strava’s global community and the universality of sport. Meeting rooms are named after legendary segments, such as Alpe d’Huez and Mount Tam, and feature scannable QR codes where visitors can learn more about each route. The space also showcases bibs from local and global races, as well as a curated gallery of Strava Art pieces created by athletes from around the world.
A Four-Floor Hub for Strava’s Future
Taking up close to 41,000 square feet across four floors, each space of the new headquarters has its own unique identity, reflecting Strava’s various teams:
The 28th floor is home to a number of Product, Design, and Engineering employees, as well as the Strava Library. The collection features our favorite books on running, cycling, sport and human potential, carefully curated from a selection sourced by employees. These books are available for staff to check out and read at their leisure.
The 27th floor features visuals that show our community in action. The lobby screen wall is more than 25 feet wide and displays real-time Strava stats, showcasing public activities from our local San Francisco community. Additionally, the Strava Art Gallery features a dozen art pieces of the most popular designs from across the globe, and a 3-screen display showcases beautiful photos and maps from actual public activities uploaded by the Strava community each day. Both are tributes to the achievements of our communities and employees celebrating their passion and dedication.
The 26th floor houses teams from People, Data Engineering, Legal, Marketing, Partnerships, Community Management, and Finance. The gallery wall showcases jerseys gifted to Strava by professional cyclists.
The 25th floor, also known as The Boathouse. This is a dedicated gathering space for all employees, named in honor of the university boathouse, where Strava’s co-founders Mark Gainey and Michael Horvath first met and were inspired to create Strava to replicate the camaraderie they felt as part of the same rowing team.
The new space is designed to support both in-person and hybrid work models so that every team member has the resources to excel. Employees will enjoy:
Easy access to public transit, restaurants and parks
Thoughtfully designed spaces that encourage teamwork
Bike storage and locker room amenities for active commutes or team activities
